Curriculum intent:
Business Studies provides a broad and varied learning platform for students to further their horizons. It looks to investigate business concepts, from business finance, people management and marketing strategies. As a department, we have worked hard in selecting an appropriate, relevant and challenging course at both Key Stage 4 and 5.
As a teaching team, we work tirelessly to ensure that lessons are challenging, relevant and allow students to build on their learning and progress. As many of the concepts are new learning, it is essential to embed the new knowledge by applying this to real businesses and case studies that are relevant and provide a deeper understanding into the business activity.
Within the subject, students will grasp new concepts, such as business finance, where they will be required to calculate the revenue and costs of a business and make future projections from their findings. Decision making in real life business is imperative. It challenges students to think of the current business situation and make recommendations and judgements, based on that data and information. As a subject, we also investigate marketing theories and strategies, external factors that impact a business, business structure and how collectively these elements work to create a functional and successful business with competitive advantage.
