Unit 1: Exploring Business

Exploring Business lays the foundation of business notions and allows students to research and embed their learning by applying this concepts to real life businesses. By understanding the subject taught and relating to this to up to date business activity allows a real insight into the world of business.

The topics and learning aims within this unit:
 
• Discover the features of different businesses and investigate their structure and functional areas and how this links to their success
• Investigate the impact of the external environment, looking at how the economy can impact and influence the business activity
• Consider how innovation and enterprise links to business structure and success

Unit 2: Marketing Campaign
 
The world of marketing is vast and we are around the influence of marketing activity most days, from a TV advert, website pop up, strategically created campaigns are designed to draw in consumers and create retention in their consumer behaviour.

The topics and learning aims within this unit:
 
• Being able to identify key marketing principles and concepts within marketing and consider their impact within a campaign for a brand, as well as the link to success overall.
• From your research and investigation about marketing and the key ideas, you will be asked to create a full marketing campaign from the initial plans to the final collective campaign.

Unit 3: Personal and Business Finance
 
This unit is split between the learning and practice of personal and business finance.

Personal Finance covers the discovery of the importance of managing personal finance, exploring the personal finance sector. Business Finance covers new learning of the importance of business finance and how this is managed, monitored and the impact within decision making for any business. This part of the unit will explore income and expenditure, sources of finance, cash flow, break even analysis, profit and loss and balance sheets. The unit also covers evaluating a business’s financial position and how this can support a business’s decision making and success.

Unit 8: Recruitment and Selection in Business

Recruitment and Selection allows the students to research and investigate the various ways a business can carry out recruitment to fulfil a vacancy. They will study a large public limited company and explain the ways in which they carry out recruitment activities linking to business success and adhering to ethical and legal considerations. The unit then asks students to be the candidate, looking into recruitment documents and completing them as a candidate, applying their own skills and qualities to a role of their choice. They will also take part in a full and formal job interview and be asked to evaluate their interview skills and documents against business models to assess their performance, providing them with a true insight into the world of work.
