Our Sociology courses are a popular choice for students who learn about socialisation, culture and identity whilst exploring social differentiation, power and stratification, with a core focus on contemporary UK society and changes within a globalised context.
Students also examine the significance of consensus and conflict theories within the study of Sociology and learn about social structures and institutions in our society, social action and the role of ideas and values. Students will develop an in-depth theoretical, practical and analytical understanding of how society is studied and investigated thorough sociological research methods.
Curriculum Intention:
The intent for the Sociology curriculum is to ensure that our young sociologists are equipped with the necessary theoretical knowledge, skills and vocabulary to develop a better understanding of society, social groups and the inequality seen in the world around us. The sociology curriculum will enable our learners to value the importance of research and will allows students to discuss the strengths and limitations of a variety of approaches to the study of society. It will also develop their evaluative, critical and analytical skills.
