The PE Department prides itself on the high standards it sets, both in our delivery of our practical lessons, extra–curricular programme and in our theory delivery. Last year 100% of our students achieved their Level 2 BTEC Sport. The department offers a range of examinable subjects at both KS4 and KS5, including Level 2 BTec Sport, Cambridge Nationals in Sports Studies and GCSE PE at KS4 and at Level 3, BTEC Sport and exercise Science. We also offer a range of Leadership qualifications and a number of National Governing body awards.
Once students have finished their education with us, the knowledge they gain from their PE lessons and qualifications enable them to go into careers in the uniformed public services, teaching, coaching, leisure industry, business and onto university, while the core values and skills of PE will stay with them throughout life.
We ensure we offer a broad and balanced curriculum. It is important to us that we take into account the opinions and engagement of all our students when designing their personalised pathways. This has resulted in us not only teaching the traditional competitive sports to a high level but also a range of fitness based alternative activities.
At Sir John Hunt we actively encourage students to attend lunchtime and after school sports clubs. Examples of the wide range of activities that students can take part in include:
