Curriculum Intent
At Sir John Hunt, music is a modern and vibrant subject, which embraces the core elements of music learning - listening, performing and composing, whilst at the same time striving to be current, vocational and student led.
The mission is for music to be part of a student’s lifelong learning, with the learner being able to pass on their knowledge, skills and passion to subsequent generations - something musicians have always done.
Music is an incredibly broad subject, embracing many different genres and thus creating opportunities for discussions about what is considered ‘good’ or ‘bad’ music. Through student appraisal, performance and creation of new music, the subject teaches resilience, whilst instilling self-confidence and creative self-worth, all of which are needed to embrace the modern world. In essence, our music education can give students the courage of their own convictions.
As well as group work, music lessons at Sir John Hunt allow students to gain independence, from being able to lead their own rehearsals and performances, to being able to coach and lead other groups of performers. We have a proven track record of providing such opportunities for older students and this has often led to students following a music career pathway.
Music education at Sir John Hunt allows students creative freedom, access to high quality rehearsal and performance spaces and learning in a bespoke, unique environment. We hope to encourage students into the vast career opportunities that exist in music and media, from working with the BBC, the music industry, composing for games and film, music therapy, performing, military bands, teaching and so much more.
Music is a subject that has the power to inspire and create lifelong learning and a lifetime of memories. It is on this premise, that we passionately believe in the creative force of music in education.
