Key Stage 5

At Key Stage 5, students follow the RSL Subsidiary Diploma. This is a Level 3, 90 credit qualification, which is equivalent to 1.5 of an A-Level.

The qualification gives learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin study of the music business recording and live performance sector. It gives students additional breadth and depth, to prepare them fully for further study or training.

Facilities

We are very lucky to have a superb, large, modern music department, which comprises a teaching/performing room, a music technology suite, a recording studio and several practice rooms. Each practice room is equipped with instruments, amplifiers, PA, Mics and 1 also has a 5 piece drumkit.

There is a class set of Apple Mac computers, each connected to a MIDI keyboard. Furthermore, the Music ICT is regularly updated and incudes Garageband, Logic Pro X, DJay Pro and more.

Extra-Curricular

Typically, students are given the opportunity to participate in a wide range of musical activities, which enhance and enrich their learning.

These include:

-Lunchtime concerts, to showcase students' talents to their peers
-Popular talent shows, during Children In Need and Comic Relief weeks
-Year 7 College singing group
-Singing for Schools annual Year 7 music event
-KS3 music club, which takes place after school on a Friday
-KS4 and 5 recording and performing sessions, Tuesday to Friday, after school

There are also opportunities for KS4 and KS5 students to perform in and around the city, as part of their practical coursework. In the past, this has included large performances on the main stage on Plymouth Pavilions and involvement in county-wide composing events.
