The end of this term is the perfect opportunity to celebrate our students with 100% attendance. We hope that all students will be in school every day but understand that occasional illness may affect this so our expectation is that all students will have attendance of at least 95%. This target has been achieved by 320 students this term with a further 263 being here every day: well done to those students. I would also like to remind you that we do not operate a 48 hour illness policy at Sir John Hunt and students are expected to return to school as soon as they are well enough to do so.
We appreciate that sometimes children may not want to come to school and that as a parent or carer it can be difficult to persuade them to do so: to aid you in ensuring that your child has attendance of at least 95% we are currently championing three key initiatives:
Attendance Raffle
Our attendance raffle has been a successful tool for parents and carers to help ensure their children come in to College every day: for every unbroken week (where a student attends every day Monday to Friday) they are entered into our weekly raffle. During roll call every Friday morning five students with an unbroken week from each year group are randomly chosen to be entered in our raffle meaning that this term we have (so far) had 150 winners. Collectively these students have won £120 worth of Amazon Vouchers £100 worth of love to shop vouchers, sweets, treats, games and lunch queue passes.
At the end of this term we will also be drawing our winner for the £30 takeaway voucher, drawn from students who have attended the last 15 days of term. This student will receive a voucher to take home to treat the family to a Just Eat takeaway. Our Attendance Raffle will continue next term and there will be another opportunity for a family to win a takeaway voucher if a student has 100% attendance up until the end of term.
Attendance SWAP SHOP - Rewarding students’ attendance
From the start of next term we will also be introducing our Attendance SWAP SHOP. For each unbroken week a student achieves they will receive a sticker in their student planner. Each week they will be able to swap those stickers for a range of rewards/prizes from edible treats to stationary and sports equipment or save them up throughout the year to swap for shopping vouchers or items from the College Parent Pay.
Happy Birthday
We know that sometimes a child will try and persuade their family to let them stay at home on their birthday: as an incentive to come to College for mid-week birthdays we are introducing Happy Birthday where we will give a small chocolate bar and two skip the queue passes to students on their birthday, giving them a breaktime treat and enabling them to spend their lunch with friends rather than queuing for food (they may choose to use their passes on a different day if they wish).
If we can do anything more to support you as parents and carers in ensuring that your child maintains excellent attendance then please do speak to the relevant Head of Year or Inclusion Lead.
