SJH Music Extravaganza!

On Friday the 9th of December the day started with the whole of Year 7 taking part in the Singing for Schools event. Students spent the whole day learning songs to then perform to an audience of family members at the end of the day. Jenny Cleverley directed the day, with assistance from Mr Cleverley and the music department.

In addition to festive songs of 'I wish it could be Christmas everyday' and 'Somewhere only we know', popular chart songs 'As it was' by Harry Styles, 'Runnin' by Beyonce and 'New York' by Alicia Keys were sang. By the end of the day, the Year 7's hard work turned into a high quality performance that was well received by the audience.

The music department then held a charity showcase. The event began with Ruby Pope, a student in Year 9 singing 'Train Wreck' followed by Romana Bennett, Kai O'Gorman, Harry Cotton, Chloe Patterson and Cerys Hanna performing 'Revolution', 'Smells like teen spirit' and 'Jealous'.

After Kiera Chown's performance of 'Man in the mirror' and 'A letter to God' Tallulah Buckeridge, Blake White and Ashleigh Patterson performed 'Blow', 'Paradise', 'Yellow' and 'Rolling in the deep'. The music show concluded with the songs "Stuck in the middle" and "Moonage daydream" by Lexi Taylor and Megan Greetham. A poem written by Caitlin Payne, a student in Year 10 closed the performance.

In addition to this event being a part of Children in Need, we chose to work with Mr Kershaw and use the occasion to raise awareness of the mental health and well-being support that is available to our students.

A special thanks to Mr Cleverley, Mr Truscott and Mr Walker who provided support for the performers. Congratulations to all participants who contributed to the success of both events!
