Regional firm South West Highways have partnered with Sir John Hunt CSC as part of the city's Adopt a School Programme.
Business Manager for the company, John Lee delivered a workshop to Year 7 students during which he spoke of the 180 roles within the industry and the huge opportunities that will be open to students once they leave education. In particular they focused on engineering and the different types of engineer.
John particularly highlighted to the female students that construction is crying out for more women with only 1 in 5 working in STEM related careers.
During the session, teams discussed and reviewed the work created by civil engineers within the city and were then given the opportunity to construct their very own tower using spaghetti, marshmallows, tape and string!
As a result of the session students were able to demonstrate employability skills such as teamwork and communication as well as engage with an employer and learn about careers in industry.
