Superkids visit TR2

On Friday 15th March the Superkids were lucky enough to be invited to Theatre Royal Plymouth’s Production and Learning Centre, also known as TR2. Hidden in the corner of Plymouth, situated on the River Plym, it's the the Aladdin’s cave of Theatre!

It was a wonderful experience, where students got to see behind the scenes of the theatre world and learn more about the careers within the creative industries.

We saw the breath-taking wardrobe department, creating and storing a large range of costumes for productions and met with the staff who have to create looks ranging from a shoestring budget, to ones in the hundreds of thousands!
Almost like entering Narnia’s wardrobe, the costume storeroom takes your breath away. Seeing the costumes of some iconic theatre characters and having the opportunity to see the talented craft making that has gone into bringing them to life is amazing.
We also experienced the huge warehouse where all the production of sets happens - it was a sight to see! I don’t think the students quite realised that welding was a required skill to work in the theatre!

It was a fantastic day, ending with a creative production workshop, through which the students produced some great stories and visuals to accompany it.
