Childcare Key Workers and Vulnerable Students

Please note: Applications for childcare week beginning 23rd March are now closed and the application for childcare week beginning 14th April can be accessed from this page from Tuesday 7th April 9.30am.

Childcare eligibility
As per Government instruction, the College will remain open for children of ‘key workers’ where alternative childcare cannot be found, or where the only available carer is someone over the age of 70. What this means is that if both parents at home are key workers, or if a child lives with a lone parent/carer who is a key worker, and no alternative childcare is available, then those children are entitled to attend school during the period of closure.

The government’s definition of key workers is people who, in these unprecedented times, are needed on the frontline. This includes those working in the NHS, in care homes, in the police and fire service, teaching assistants and teachers. It also includes people who are involved in essential retail delivery and those suddenly manufacturing equipment such as ventilators. Further information can be found on the link below regarding the professions that qualify.

Please be aware school providing childcare should be last resort and we will only consider emergency provision for key workers when there is no alternative option. Parents/carers should keep their children at home if at all possible.

Vulnerable children that  are eligible are:
•those who are supported by social care,
•those with safeguarding and welfare needs, including child in need plans, on child protection plans, ‘looked after’ children, and young carers;
disabled children and those with education, health and care (EHC) plans.

Booking a place
As a College we want to support our key workers and appreciate that for many of you it is hard to anticipate your working patterns longer than a week ahead. In order to create the flexibility that you need, at the same time as managing our staffing levels, we will publish a “eligibility, enrolment and booking” application on our College website every week.

This survey will open at 9.30 am every Tuesday and close at 9.30 am the following day. Confirmation of arrangements will then follow by 6.00 pm every Wednesday for the week ahead.

This form must be completed for each child requiring childcare.

Format of the childcare provision:
• The days will run from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm with students registering in the sixth form block.
• Students should wear smart, clean, casual cloths suitable for low physical activity.
• Students should bring their own lunch and a drink / snack.
• Students on FSM will be provided with a lunch if requested.
• Students will be supervised while they access our computers as they engage in the home learning tasks set by their teachers. Films and low level sports activities may also be made available.

Communication

The school switch board is currently closed but you can access an emergency childcare hotline on 07960618120. This number should also be used to communicate student absence. Any other non-urgent communication should be directed through the “contact us” section of the College website

FAQ:
“I AM A KEY WORKER, BUT MY PARTNER IS NOT. DOES MY CHILD GO TO SCHOOL?”

No. If you are a key worker and your child can be cared for at home by a co-parent, then they are not eligible for provision.

"I HAVE TWO CHILDREN AT  THE COLLEGE DO I NEED TO COMPLETE THE BOOKING FORM TWICE"

Yes please. Complete the form for each child who requires a place.
