Key Stage 3

Welcome to Key Stage 3 at Sir John Hunt Community Sports College and the start of the secondary learning experience. Our vision is for every student to realise their potential and, to make that happen, we insist on high expectations of attendance and punctuality, conduct and attitude to learning.

We encourage our students to challenge themselves, to develop new skills and knowledge and to become confident, independent learners. We also encourage them to make the most of the many opportunities on offer; we offer a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and activities and we also offer the Key Stage 3 Learning Club after school every day, where students can be supported to complete homework.

Key Stage 3 is the first stage of a seven year journey and, central to everything we do, is the belief that every student has potential and we look forward to working with parents and carers to unlock the potential of every young person at Sir John Hunt.

Learning Club

The Key Stage 3 Learning Club runs on alternative days for Year 7s and Year 8s. On Mondays and Wednesdays Learning Club is open for Year 7s and on Tuesdays and Thursdays Learning Club is available for Year 8s.

Students are able to receive help with homework, revision, or anything they are working on in lessons.

Students are given loyalty cards to collect stamps each time they complete a piece of work, which generate praise points and a are entered into a raffle for prizes.

Get organised, get help, get homework done. We look forward to seeing you there!

You may be aware that we’re using Seneca Learning to support our students’ digital learning.

Seneca offers high-quality free online learning courses for students to study from a computer, tablet or phone.

Seneca also provides free parent accounts. Their free parent accounts allow you to track your child’s learning and help make conversations about school and learning easier.

Seneca’s parent accounts also allow you to learn alongside your child if you wish to do so. This might be helpful in supporting you to work with your child on areas of their school work that you are less familiar with.

You can sign up for a free Seneca parent account here: app.senecalearning.com/parent

Seneca have made this handy 2 minute video to help you get started.

Or you can read how to get your free account if you’d prefer.

If you have any questions about how Seneca works, you can get support from the Seneca team using the live chat on their website or you can email them at learnmore@seneca.io.

I hope you find Seneca’s free parent account useful!

Hegarty Maths is a fantastic online learning platform which supports students with independent maths study. It contains hundreds of videos explaining and modelling key maths skills and concepts, as well as thousands of questions which students can complete to check their understanding.

In addition, Hegarty Maths will help students to identify what areas they need to work on and will create bespoke challenges to address this as part of the "Fix Up Five" activities. Students also get the opportunity to keep their skills on their strengths up to date by using the Memri Quiz.

All students have been issued with a username and password, but any students who are having difficulty in accessing their account can email Mr Stockton on d.stockton@sjhcsc.co.uk
