Fish Heroes

At the start of November GCSE Catering students took part in a nationwide campaign which focuses on students cooking and eating more fish in school. We were 1 of 250 schools throughout England who received A class rope grown mussels from Brixham.

Mrs Skelton's Year 10 class and Mrs Stockton's Year 11 class, learnt about where the mussels came from and how they are harvested. Students also focused on the nutrients mussels provide and how they are relatively cheap to buy. Students then prepared and cooked the mussels in a Thai style broth, once they were cooked students were allowed to eat them.

It was brilliant to see the students trying the mussels and enjoying them, for a lot of them this was a new experience as it's not every lesson you get to cook with shellfish! There were lots of positive feedback about the workshop and students said they would definitely cook with Mussels again.

A brilliant campaign that we will continue to take part in, hopefully in January we will be lucky enough to receive a delivery of fresh Salmon fillets.
