UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge

After a number of years off and some very successful Junior Challenges, this year SJH entered 71 students across Year 9 and 10 for the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge. On 29th January the students sat the exam in the hall and performed brilliantly, showcasing their skills in problem solving and reasoning. This challenge had the added element of being able to lose marks in certain sections for incorrect questions, so students had to make sure they were confident and strategic with their answers. I am really pleased to announce that 15 of our students performed well enough to obtain bronze certificates, with all others receiving a certificate of participation.

In February we took two Year 8 and two Year 9 students to the UKMT Team Maths Challenge. This event has not been running for a number of years due to Covid, so it was great to get a team together and a fantastic opportunity for our students to show off their collaboration and communication skills. The team travelled to Exmouth Community College for the day, where they competed in a variety of challenges against 12 other schools. Oliver and Aidan both said it was really fun and they would definitely do it again and would like to be in next years' team! Ellie said the best part was working together and forming new friendships. Well done to the whole team!
