Sir John Hunt Community Sports College

Personal Development

Intent

Personal development is embedded in all aspects of College life, including curriculum time, assemblies, extra-curricular activities and the College’s leadership and volunteering programme.  The curriculum delivery incorporates statutory guidance for SMSC, Modern British Values and Citizenship, RSE and Careers Advice and Guidance (Gatsby benchmarks).  Our curriculum is designed to encourage students to engage with views, beliefs and opinions that are different from their own, and diversity is reflected in all PD lessons.

The curriculum is broken down into six key themes: British Values, Relationships, Careers, Health, Faith and Diversity and Keeping Yourself and Others Safe.  Our curriculum also includes the twelve Decider skills for Year 7, UKYP elections, and sessions from MHST, Sharp and the Zone.

The curriculum ensures that students are provided with opportunities to develop their discussion/debate skills, and understand how to be responsible, respectful and active citizens.

Our curriculum is mapped over five years but also allows flexibility to cover current affairs and relevant news stories that may affect our students.
