Uniform policy
Sir John Hunt CSC requires students to wear school uniform. We believe that a school uniform provides a sense of belonging and identity whilst setting an appropriate tone for an education setting.

In developing our school uniform we have carefully considered what is required practically for classroom lessons or for sport, safeguarding and health and safety considerations, and our obligations under the Equality Act 2010, and we have taken account of the wishes of parents and pupils.
We have also considered the cost implications for families and different groups of pupils and sought the best value – we have minimised the number of branded items and avoided single supplier contracts so that parents have a choice of where they can shop, and we will avoid frequent uniform changes so that clothes can be passed on. We also offer school swap shop /second-hand uniform to ensure that families have low-cost options.

College uniform
In partnership with students and parents, we maintain an extremely high standard of dress. We ask that parents ensure that their children are always smart and tidy in appearance and adhere to the guidelines below.
We recommend that in cases where parents are unsure about any item of uniform, reference is made to the details and images below which illustrate acceptable and unacceptable uniform styles. In cases where parents are still unsure, we recommend that they contact the college before making purchases. The college reserves the right to have the final say on whether an item of uniform is acceptable or not. In all cases, we recommend that the uniform is clearly marked with the student's name.
✓ Natural Hair Styles/Colour. Please note that extremes of fashion or unusual hairstyles are not permitted. Hair should be of a natural colour.
✓ No Make-Up. Preferably no make-up, but subtle use of make-up is acceptable.
✓ Plain black straight leg trousers which are not tight around the ankles: no jeans, leggings, fashion styles, skinny, fitted or baggy styles to be worn. Trousers with visible metallic zips or buttons are unsuitable and tight-fitting trousers are inappropriate for school. Trousers to be worn with plain black crew-length socks.
Or:
✓ College-approved knee-length pleated skirt worn to the knee with black tights or plain white high ankle socks.

- A plain black belt with a subtle plain metallic buckle may be worn.
- College tie, tied neatly and tight to the collar, with the wider end reaching the top of the trousers or skirt covering shirt buttons
- Plain white long sleeved shirt or blouse: with a stiff collar and a top button, to be worn tucked in to the trousers or skirt at all times. Polo/casual shirts are not acceptable
- College blazer with embroidered school logo.
Optional: Sir John Hunt jumper – black with embroidered school logo. This may be worn underneath the blazer during colder weather but does not replace the requirement to wear a blazer. - Plain black shoes: low or no heel only: no striped/different coloured or transparent soles or logos permitted. No extreme styles, open toes or open backs. No trainers.
- A coat/jacket may be worn to and from College but must be removed during the school day, on the College site.
- Headscarves, hats & bandanas are not part of the College uniform and must not
be worn.
PE Kit Expectations – Academic Year 2026/27
At Sir John Hunt Community Sports College, we believe that all students should participate fully in all Physical Education. Wearing the correct PE kit helps to ensure that lessons are safe, inclusive and enjoyable for everyone.
We kindly ask for your support in ensuring that your child arrives at every PE lesson with the correct kit.
No jewellery can be worn for PE lessons at any time (including clear plastic retainers)
Compulsory PE kit for 2026/27:
- Plain black shorts
- College blue PE shirt with college logo
- Black football socks (cut football socks are not permitted)
- White sports socks
- Trainers
- Football boots (moulded studs)
- Shin pads
- Some students will also require gum shields. If this is the case, we will inform you separately.
All students' optional extras:
- College black training top with College Logo
- Plain black tracksuit bottoms with no large logos, piping or stripes

Items Not Permitted: Leggings, Cycling shorts, Tight-fitting shorts or hot pants, Cut football socks

Equipment
Being fully equipped for the day is essential, please ensure that you have the following as a minimum each day to allow for the best start to your learning:
• School bag- a rucksack or shoulder bag designed to carry school items, large enough to hold an A4 writing pad, full PE kit and other essentials.
• Planner
• Clear Pencil Case containing:
✓ 3 x Blue or Black ballpoint pens
✓ 1 x Pencil
✓ 2 x Green Pens
✓ Rubber
✓ Ruler
✓ Whiteboard
✓ Whiteboard pen
✓ Whiteboard rubber
It is beneficial for students to have additional equipment in a separate pencil case such as a range of coloured pencils and pens, highlighter, protractor and glue stick.
If you are going to buy and bring a calculator it should be the Casio Classwiz fx-83GT X. This should be marked clearly with your name.
Students should bring in a 750ml sealable bottle, containing water or juice (no fizzy/energy/high sugar/caffeine drinks)
It is not appropriate for students to bring:
X Scissors
X Correction fluid (such as tipp-ex)
X Pair of compasses
Persistent failure to have all the correct equipment will result in sanctions.
Jewellery
- Jewellery - One plain ring is acceptable. One pair of plain round metallic stud earrings, no wider the 5mm are acceptable in the ear lobes. No other jewellery is allowed. To support students who have multiple piercings we will allow a transparent plastic stud retainer to be worn if required. If piercings are worn these must be removed for some practical subjects including PE. Bracelets, anklets, necklaces and hooped piercings are not allowed.
No jewellery can be worn for PE lessons at any time (Including clear plastic retainers).
If students are not in the correct uniform, then they may be taken out of their normal lessons to learn away from other students. Please refer to the images below for further information:
Health and safety
Schools have a duty of care to ensure students are able to participate actively without unnecessarily endangering themselves or those working around them. The Association for Physical Education (afPE) strongly recommends the practice of removing all personal effects at the commencement of every lesson to establish a safe working environment. This applies to all ear and body piercings, including retainer and expander earrings, as well as all other jewellery, including watches. Therefore, at Sir John Hunt, all of these items must be removed prior to the start of the PE lesson.
Long hair worn by both staff and students should be tied back securely.
Nails for staff and students need to be short to prevent injury to self and others. (You should not be able to see the nails over the top of the finger when looking at your hands from the palm side. For this reason, the policy at Sir John Hunt is that acrylic, shellac, gel and all other types of false nails are not suitable.)
Illness or injury policy
When not able to take part physically due to illness or injury, students are expected to bring a note from a parent/carer and change into PE kit so as they can still be part of the lesson as a coach or assistant. This will also protect their uniform if we are having outdoor PE lessons at that time.
